String Theory 101.

Scientist believe that reality as we know it comes into being by these tiny microscopic particals known as strings vibrate.Matter is formed according to the little tune that these strings play.”Live At Plaza De La Raza” confirms the theory and brings attention to one of it’s most dedicated praticioners Hideaki “Heday” Tokunaga”. Born in Osaka Japan,Heday, moved to New York before setteling in Los Algeles. New York was a real experience remembers Heday,”I dropped out of New York University due to financial reasons. I played on the street and in the subways.”There are some great muscians playing in the subways. You go through auditions and have to get a permit”. It was on the streets of New York that Heday met legendary drummer Billy Higgins.

Heday and wife Carrie soon made the move to Los Angeles and Heday enrolled at CalArts. A well respected University just outside L.A. It was during this period that Heday would win one of the most coveted awards a young muscian could receive. The Best USA/Canada Jazz Instrumental Soloist -presented by Down Beat Magazine. An award that included summissions from students from around the world and was judged by internationaly known muscians.

David Roitstein, director of Cal Arts Jazz program, says it best “Tokunaga is a great muscian.,a realy serious muscian. Whenever he is around, you always know something good is about to happen.”
